Things to do...
Our nearest town, Montcuq, is only 10 minutes by car, and is home to a wonderful market every Sunday morning. It's the place to be and the ambience is great. Everyone’s catching up on the week’s news, buying fresh produce and enjoying the market stalls. It's a must, and perhaps you’ll pick up the odd present for yourself or friends back home. Montcuq also has all the local shops and facilities you may need – news agents, butchers, bakers, garage, supermarket, estate agents, municipal outdoor pool, tennis courts and of course, restaurants and bars. The tourist office in town is very helpful and can provide many tips about things to do and try.
Castelnau-Montratier, also about 10 minutes away by car, is well worth a visit for its church, superb views from the top of the town, the inviting town square and medieval buildings. It's very easy to while away several hours outside one of the cafes on a warm summers afternoon or evening.
Cahors, the capital of the LOT, and home of the famous Valentré Bridge, is only a 20-minute drive from us. It has a very large market every Wednesday and Saturday and many places to sample French cuisine and the world famous Cahors wine. If it's gifts you're after, there are plenty of shops to entice you to spend your holiday money. It is situated on the river LOT and you can take a boat trip in the summer around the town. It is also possible to take a tourist train along the valley from Cahors and friends tell us this is a great day out.
Better known villages such as Rocamadour, with its castle, and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, reputed to be the most beautiful village in France, are within an hour’s drive of us and are both breathtaking. We'd recommend planning a day out to see each of these whilst taking in a leisurely lunch along the way.
Both Toulouse and Bordeaux are possible to explore as day trips and this would certainly give you enough time to sample a little of what each city has to offer.
